My contemporary and abstract paintings often reflect the place where land and water converge. When exploring the rocky shore in Downeast Maine, direct observation of my immediate locality informs my work. I am inspired by scenes from everyday coastal life.
As a self-taught painter, growth in my artistic practice is essential to me. My sketchbooks, camera, and even scribbled notes on back of receipts record daily thoughts, images, and suggestions for future work in the studio.
Maine artist Sarah Lightfoot Brundage paints in oil, oil pastel or encaustic wax. Her current oil paintings are somewhere amid representation and abstract with fluid, lush brush strokes.
A graphic designer by training, Sarah frequently explores visual concepts and designs to inspire others. Color, form and line, are integral elements which she sends toward abstraction. Painting is an important, daily creative practice in self discovery, and Sarah works primarily from observation to maintain clarity and purpose in her work.
Sarah’s work has been shown in regional solo, and group exhibits, international group exhibits, and is held in private collections. Her paintings can be viewed at Littlefield Gallery, Winter Harbor, ME; Swallowfield, 104, Main Street, Northeast Harbor, ME; and Venn & Maker, 374 US-1, Yarmouth, ME.
