New Year, Wild Weather
Extreme storms battered Maine’s coastline earlier this year - strong winds blowing over the surface of the sea, large and long waves reaching the shore with destructive storm surge. In coastal communities these storms have affected independent, local businesses, the livelihoods of working fisherman, damaged public infrastructure, and private properties.
After looking at the damage in my community I remembered my oil pastels from 2020. I pulled out my sketchbooks and decided to go to the easel.
My sketchbook reference images are below. My work from a few years focused heavily on rock and water.
Some families and businesses will see some available federal aid. However the destruction was wide-spread and severe. Clean-up of local shorelines, and repair to trails and coastal roadways in Acadia National Park will continue well into the summer months.
